 Shirley Jackson

Shirley Jackson is an American author born on December 14, 1919 in San Francisco. As a young child, Shirley enjoyed writing all sorts of works, mostly short stories and poetry. She resided in Berkeley for a few years before leaving the Bay Area, and heading for the East Coast with her family. There she attended University of Rochester, and later Syracuse University. At Syracuse, she met her future husband Stanley Hyman.
She mainly writes short stories and novels. The Lottery is her most famous story, although she has many other short stories. The Lottery was first published in a magazine, The New Yorker. The Lottery recieved the most letters to a magazine ever. The only problem being that most of these letters were hate mail. Her writing style usually includes ominous and vague settings and plots. Shirley Jackson died at a young age of 48, apparently getting ready for her afternoon nap.Years
after her untimely death, her children editted her collection of short stories, Just an Ordinary Day. This received great praise similar to all her other marvelous works.
